
Lacanian Psychoanalyst
Alicia Barrena is a practicing Lacanian Analyst and theorist. She completed her Ph.D. in Philosophy and Psychoanalysis at the European Graduate School in Switzerland and has trained as an analyst at the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis (NPAP) in New York City. She is currently completing a clinical formation through the Centre for Lacanian Analysis in Auckland, NZ and will be attending Paris VIII (Saint Denis) in the fall of 2026 to obtain a masters from the Department of Psychoanalysis founded by Jacques Lacan in 1969.
Theorist
For her doctorate, Dr. Barrena completed a dissertation titled “What is Rape?”. From this work, she has developed a philosophical position taking as its center a psychoanalytic investigation into the phenomenon of rape. She is currently converting the work into a book, which, beyond its philosophical implications, takes into account the very real clinical application of the work.
